KAMLOOPS EXCELS AGAINST ATHLETIC CLUB BC

June 13, 2009 - By Frank Salituro

It was an exciting and action filled game under the lights at Hillside Stadium on Saturday night with Kamloops Excel beating Athletic Club BC 4-2. Kamloops Excel went ahead 1-0 on an own goal credited to Connor Doherty in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Kamloops Excel continued to press and just missed going up 2 and 3
nothing with shots by Casey Cullen and Connor Doherty beating the goalie but going just wide of the net. ACBC took advantage of the Excel misses and scored on their first real chance of the game 30 minutes in on a Excel mistake in the penalty area. Ten minutes later ACBC scored again from a corner were the ACBC Player found a loose ball at the 18 yard line and powered a shot in the top corner for a 2-1 ACBC lead.

Kamloops Excel came out in the second half looking to equalize and controlled the play but were unable to score with chance after chance going just wide.
With about 15 minutes left in the game Kamloops Excel pushed another player forward and were rewarded with a goal by Casey Cullen from close range to tie the game 2-2.
Not being happy playing for the draw Kamloops Excel continued to press and with less than 5 minutes left were rewarded again with another goal from the foot of Connor Doherty to go up 3-2.  With ACBC pushing hard for the draw in the dying minutes, the ACBC goalie moved up deep in the Kamloops Excel end on an ACBC corner kick. When Excel's Todd Vass won the head ball which went to Connor Doherty in his own end, Doherty struck the ball for 70 yards away that went in to the empty ACBC goal for his 3rd goal of the game and the Excel 4-2 win.

Kamloops Excel's record now stands at 4 wins, 2 ties and 1 loss and the team plays again on Wednesday night in Kelowna.
