HEAT CLINCH FIRST IN WOMEN'S RESERVE DIVISION

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Heat have become the 2009 Pacific Coast Soccer League Women's Reserve Division regular season champions in only their second year of operation. The Heat sewed up first place following a 5-4 roller coaster victory over the North Shore Girls Soccer Club Stars at Hillside Stadium.

"This was a game with many shifts in momentum," stated Heat manager David Lloyd. "After an early NSGSC goal, the Heat managed to dominate much of the next 45 minutes. We led 4-1 after 60 minutes.

Sam Whitacker (McMaster University,Kamloops, BC) scored two first half goals for Kamloops. Kelli Chamberlain (Queen's University) gaining an assist on both of them. The Heat led 3-1 at the break thanks to Ashley Piggott (Kamloops, BC)getting the other marker drawing the ball from Cassie Drummond (TRU, Kamloops, BC). Drummond had a goal and one assist in the match.

Drummond's goal early in the second gave the Heat a 4-1 lead. Val Godard (forward, TRU, Kamloops, BC) notched the assist.
Following NSGSC cutting the margin to 4-2, Godard scored to make it 5-2. Her WolfPack teammate, Maddy Reid (TRU, Kamloops, BC) got the assist.

North Shore added two late goals to cut the margin of victory to 1.

"In the end, "stated Lloyd "Kamloops played well enough for a win. but we have some things to work on to ensure success in the last part of the season."

The victory gives Kamloops 11 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. North Shore falls to 2-7-2.

The Heat close out the regular season Sunday July 19 th in Chilliwack against Royal Racing FC. The match is set for 2:30pm at Exhibition Park in Chilliwack. The Challange Cup playdowns are set for the Apple Bowl and the Parkinson Rec Center in Kelowna on July 25 and 26 th.
