HEAT WIN EIGTH IN NINE STARTS

June 21, 2009 - By Larry Read

North Vancouver, BC - The Kamloops Heat have extended their winning streak to four games in the Pacific Coast Soccer League's Women's Reserve Division. The Heat downed the host North Shore Girls Soccer Club 2-0.

Kamloops opened the scoring in the final minute of the first half when Kelli Chamberlain (Queens University, CIS) put a header past the North Shore keeper on a cross from Alanna Bekkering (U Vic, Kamloops, BC). Chamberlain leads the PCSL Women's Reserve Division with 10 goals now

In the 2nd half, the Heat went ahead 2-0 in the 88 th minute. TRU WolfPack forward Cassie Drummond (Kamloops, Bc) scored on a great individual effort after receiving a pass from WolfPack teammate Val Goddard. That was Drummond's second goal of the campaign

Shannen Meyer (TRU, Kamloops, BC) notched the shutout.

"We had a slow start in the first half," explained Heat manager David Lloyd. "But our defense played well and limited the number of chances NSGSC had. We controlled most of the second half and if not for the play of the North Shore keeper, the score would have been higher."

The Heat now move to 8 and 1 on the season, the best record in the league. They take on the Fraser Valley Action (Sunday, June 21) at Trinity Western. Fraser Valley will be out to avenge a 3-0 loss that they suffered at the hands of Kamloops last weekend at Hillside Stadium.

NSGSC fall to 2-5-1.
