June 29, 2009 - By Larry Read

Kamloops, BC - The goals were coming as frequent as the fans drinking water to keep hydrated as the Kamloops Heat rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Semiahmoo Football Club in Pacific Coast Soccer League Women's Reserve action at Hillside Stadium on Sunday (June 28).

Playing in the warm temperatures, the Heat lived up to their first place position and the weather--rolling out to a 4-0 lead at the half.

"We had them on their heels from the opening whistle," said Heat and TRU WolfPack head coach Tom McManus, who got to coach from the sidelines for the first time this PCSL season.

Kamloops opened the scoring three minutes in when Jesse Lebert (TRU, Kamloops, BC) scored off a through ball from Bronwyn Crawford (TRU, Kamloops, BC). Two minutes later (5 minute mark), another WolfPack player: Blair MacKay (Kamloops, BC) scored off a cutback from Cassie Drummond (TRU, Kamloops, BC).

Kelli Chamberlain (Queens University) continues to tear up the PCSL. She scored her 11th marker of the season. The first half was rounded off by Cassie Drummond doing all on her own. " A great individual dribbling run and then slotting it home behind the visiting goalkeeper." says McManus

In the second 45 minues, Kamloops went up by five when Alanna Bekkering (U Vic, Kamloops, BC) finished an opportunity as Crawford earned her second assist of the match. Chamberlain scored her 2nd of the match at the 75th minute mark getting the feed from center defender Shannen Meyer (TRU, Kamloops, BC).

The Heat added one more in the 87th minute when Crawford send a through ball to Val Godard (TRU, Kamloops, BC) for her third assist of the match.

The Heat had three other goals called back during the course of the match. Christine Tallon (Kamloops, BC), who will try out for the University of Alberta this fall earned the shutout in the nets as Kamloops moved to 10 and 1 on the season. Semiahmoo fell to 1 and 7.

"Another strong TEAM win," said McManus. " It was fantastic to coach again. I have really missed coaching a team. Eventhough I conduct the training sessions twice a week--and I enjoy it, getting into a game situation is something a big more special. I enjoy putting my stamp on this team both in training and in the game. I have really missed that."

McManus has had to get assistants Eric Schweizer, Kelly Shantz and Glen Archer to handle the match duties due to his committment as Head Coach of the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association.

The Heat continue their homestand with a game Saturday July 4th against the Penticton Pinnacles. Kick off is 12:30 pm at Hillside.
