HEAT WIN FIRST MATCH OF 2009

May 11, 2009 - By Larry Read, Sports Information Officer, Thompson Rivers University

South Surrey, BC — The Kamloops Heat U-21 women’s soccer program got off to a great start in the Pacific Coast Soccer League Reserve Division. Playing the host Semiahamoo FC,  the Heat scored four times in the first half and beat them 4-0.

Danielle Fauteux opened the scoring at the 14 minute mark.  Three minutes later, Alanna Bekkering, who played for U Vic last year took a pass from Abbey McAuley to make it 2-0.   Fautaux gave the Heat a 3-0 lead at the 22 minute mark from Bekkering.  Fauteux is looking to regain her form after an injury plagued season with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

The Heat’s last goal came from another player recovering from injury. Lauren White capitalized on a pass from Bronwyn Crawford.  White sat out the entire season after transferring to the McMaster Mauraders of the CIS.

Shannon Kelly got the shutout.

The Heat program is made up mostly of players from the TRU WolfPack.  Their next game is May 23 rd at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops when they host last year’s league champs, Chilliwack FC.
